I am very pleased to be able to announce today that Steve Chapman has been selected by the Diocese of Southwark for training to be a Reader at St. Mildred’s.
Readers are licensed by the Diocesan Bishop as lay members of the Church of England. Under the supervision of their vicar, they may exercise a teaching and preaching ministry, be involved in the preparation of liturgy and conducting worship, and work with the clergy in the mission and ministry of their local church and community.
Reader training is done through the St. Augustine’s College of Theology, and Licensing comes after two years with a further two years under the supervision of the Incumbent and the Director of Discipleship and Ministry.
I commend Steve to your prayers, encouragement and ongoing support.
Almighty and everlasting God,
by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified:
hear our prayer which we offer for all your people,
that in their vocation and ministry
they may serve you in holiness and truth
to the glory of your name;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Revd. Roger Hagon
Vicar of St. Mildred’s.
