Sei gegrüßet, Jesu gütig, BWV 768 – Chorale and Partitas VIII and IX

Partita VIII is in the unusual time signature of 24/16 (24 semiquavers in each bar, in four groups of 6) making it dance-like and more exuberant than the other Partitas, and features a staccato bass with ascending and descending scale figures moving expertly between the parts.

Partita IX is very similar in style to Bach’s Inventions, but with the addition of the chorale played by the pedals in the tenor register, while each hand plays individual parts that imitate each other and combine, using typically complex techniques such as sequence and inversion of the subject.
